Multicast Video: Schedule - playlists, single videos, restream and jingles
3 viewsApplies to: Multicast Video. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
The Schedule changes what your channel plays on its own, depending on the time and day. With it you can:
- play one playlist in the morning and another in the evening;
- play a specific video at a specific time, e.g. the news bulletin at 20:00;
- restream an external feed at set times, e.g. a partner's show;
- add jingles (channel idents) between videos automatically.
Before you start
- Time zone: the Schedule follows your account's time zone. Check it under Settings → Timezone. The clock at the top right of the panel shows the time the Schedule uses. See Account settings.
- The channel must be running. The Schedule changes content, but it doesn't start a stopped channel. Click Start on the Dashboard once and leave it running.
- For jingles: first mark your jingle videos under Videos → ⋮ → Mark as Jingle. See Managing your videos.
The Schedule page
Go to Streaming → Schedule. You'll see:
- A green Now Playing bar when a schedule is in effect right now, with its name and what's playing.
- The Weekly Schedule: a Monday-to-Sunday calendar with each schedule in its colour. Use Previous, Next and Today to change week. Click a schedule to edit it.
- The Schedules list: each schedule with its times, days and what it plays, plus edit (pencil) and delete (bin) buttons.
New schedule: the fields
Click New Schedule. In the window you fill in:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Name * | A name you'll recognise, e.g. "Morning slot". |
| Color | Its colour in the weekly calendar. |
| Type * | Playlist, Single Video or Restream (details below). |
| Start Time * | When it starts. |
| End Time (optional) | When it ends. If you set it earlier than the start time (e.g. 23:00 to 02:00), the schedule runs past midnight. If you leave it empty, it applies until the end of the day. |
| Days * | Tick the days. All are ticked by default. |
| Start Date / End Date (optional) | For schedules that only apply for a period, e.g. the holidays. |
| Priority | 0-100 (default 0). See "When two schedules overlap". |
| Switch Mode | Tick Immediate Switch if you want the playlist change to happen exactly on time, cutting the current video. Otherwise it waits for the video that's playing to finish. |
Click Save. You'll see "Saved" and the schedule appears in the calendar.
Playlist type: time slots
- Under Type, choose Playlist.
- Under Playlist, choose which playlist will play.
- Set the times and days and click Save.
At the start time (within about a minute) the system activates that playlist. With Immediate Switch the current video is cut; without it, the new playlist starts when the video that's playing ends.
What happens when a Playlist schedule ends: if no other schedule applies at that time, the channel carries on with the same playlist. It doesn't go back to the Default playlist by itself. To always know what's playing, create a base schedule: Playlist type, the playlist you want for "all other hours", Start Time 00:00, no End Time, every day. The other schedules "cover" it during their hours, and when they end the channel returns to the base one. Leave the base schedule's Priority at 0 and give the others a higher one (e.g. 10).
While a Playlist schedule is in effect, if you switch playlist by hand, the system puts the schedule's playlist back within about a minute.
Single Video type: one video at a set time
- Under Type, choose Single Video.
- Under Video, choose the video. The list shows your ready videos, except those marked as jingles.
- Under Repeat: leave 0 to play it once a day ("No repeat (once per day)"), or set e.g. every 2 hours to replay it within the schedule's time range.
- Set a Start Time and, preferably, an End Time (see the tip below). Choose the days and click Save.
At its time, the video that's playing is cut, the scheduled video plays, and then the playlist carries on. In the list you'll see the Played Today badge.
- Tip: set the End Time a little after the Start Time (e.g. 20:00 to 20:05). Without an End Time, if the channel was stopped at 20:00 and you start it later in the day, the video will play then.
- With a repeat (e.g. every 1 hour), set the End Time to the end of the period you want (e.g. 09:00 to 21:00).
- Reset for Replay: the ↺ button in the list appears on videos that have already played today. Click it and confirm the prompt ("play again today?") so it plays again today, if the schedule's time is still current.
Restream type: an external feed at set times
- Under Type, choose Restream.
- In the restream URL field (labelled "URL Αναμετάδοσης"), paste the direct address of the feed, e.g.
https://example.com/stream/index.m3u8. Accepted:http://,https://,rtmp://,rtmps://,rtsp://. - Set a Start Time and an End Time, the days, and click Save.
At the start time the channel shows the external feed. At the end time the restream stops and the playlist carries on.
- You need a direct stream address (e.g. ending in
.m3u8), not the address of a YouTube or Facebook page. - You can't restream your own channel or addresses on our own server (loop protection).
- Careful: when you save a Restream schedule while the channel is playing, the channel restarts immediately and viewers see a short interruption. Make such changes at a time with few viewers.
- If you want to restream by hand, without a timetable, see Restreaming another channel (Restream).
Jingle Options
The Jingle Options section only appears if you have videos marked as Jingle, and not for the Restream type.
In a Playlist schedule
- Under Select jingle, choose a specific jingle or Random Jingle.
- Under Jingle Position, choose:
- At start of playlist;
- At end of playlist;
- Between videos: the Play every X videos field appears (1-50). E.g. 3 = a jingle after every 3 videos;
- Start and end.
Jingles are added to the list when the schedule activates the playlist, or when you click Activate on that playlist. If you then change the playlist's contents, the jingles come back on the next activation.
In a Single Video schedule
If you choose a specific jingle under Select jingle, it plays right before the video, e.g. the news ident before the bulletin.
When two schedules overlap
- If two or more schedules apply at the same moment, the one that started most recently wins. E.g. a base schedule at 00:00 with no end and an "Evening slot" 18:00-22:00: from 18:00 to 22:00 the Evening slot applies.
- Priority decides which applies when two schedules start at the same time: the higher number wins.
- To keep things clear, avoid overlaps other than the base schedule, and check the weekly calendar after every change.
What overrides the Schedule
The channel chooses its source in this order:
- Live broadcast (OBS, vMix or a camera from the browser).
- A restream you switched on by hand on the Live page.
- A scheduled restream from the Schedule.
- The playlist (with any single videos and jingles you've scheduled).
So while you're live, the Schedule keeps changing the playlist "underneath", but viewers see you. When you end the live broadcast, they see whatever the Schedule sets for that time. See Going live with OBS or vMix.
Editing and deleting
- Click the schedule in the calendar or the pencil in the list, change what you need and click Save.
- Click the bin and confirm the delete prompt. Only the schedule is deleted, not the playlist or video. The channel carries on with whatever was playing.
Example: a weekly channel schedule
- Base: Playlist "General", 00:00, no end, every day, with a jingle Between videos every 4 videos.
- Morning: Playlist "Morning", 07:00-11:00, Monday to Friday.
- News: Single Video "Bulletin", 20:00-20:05, Monday to Friday, with the news jingle before it.
- Live match: Restream, Saturday 18:00-20:00, with the URL your partner gave you.
Messages / Common problems
| Message or problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Name and start time required" | Fill in Name and Start Time. |
| "Επιλέξτε τουλάχιστον μία ημέρα" (select at least one day) | Tick one or more Days. |
| "Playlist required for playlist schedule" | Choose a playlist in the Playlist field. |
| "Video required for video schedule" | Choose a video in the Video field. |
| "Restream URL required for restream schedule" | Fill in the restream URL. |
| "Μη έγκυρο URL. Χρησιμοποιήστε http://, https://, rtmp://, rtmps:// ή rtsp://" (invalid URL) | The address must start with one of these. |
| "…localhost/loopback…" or "…(loop protection)" | You can't restream your own channel or an address on our own server. Use your partner's feed. |
| The schedule didn't change anything at its time | Check that the channel is running (Dashboard → Active), the Timezone in Settings, the days and the dates. Allow up to a minute. |
| After a slot ends, the same playlist carries on | That's expected. Create the 00:00 base schedule described above. |
| The single video didn't play | It may have already played today (Played Today → click ↺), or the channel was stopped, or a schedule that started later applied at that time. If you had switched playlist by hand, activate the schedule's playlist. |
| Jingles don't appear | Check Jingle Position (not "No jingle") and that the video is marked as Jingle. Click Activate on the playlist to add them again. |
| The restream doesn't show | Check that the URL opens, e.g. in VLC. If you're live or have a manual restream at that time, those take priority. See Restream. |
