Multicast Radio: Web DJ - broadcasting live from your browser, no installation
3 viewsApplies to: Multicast Radio. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
The Web DJ is a DJ console that runs in your browser. The DJ loads tracks from their computer, talks into the microphone and goes live on your station without installing any software. It's ideal for guest presenters, for shows from different computers, or for anyone who doesn't want to deal with encoder settings.
What you need
- A computer (not a phone) with a screen at least 1200 pixels wide.
- A recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Safari isn't guaranteed to work.
- A DJ account (DJ username and password). The panel password isn't needed.
- The station must be playing (Start) with AutoDJ enabled.
- A microphone, if you'll be talking. We recommend headphones so the sound doesn't feed back into the microphone.
1. Open the Web DJ
- From the panel: Main → Web DJ. It opens in a new tab.
- For your DJs: copy the tab's address (it contains
dj-live.php?station=…) and send it to them together with their DJ details. They don't need panel access.
2. Log in
- In the DJ LIVE window, enter DJ Username and DJ Password. If the link doesn't include the station, you'll also be asked for the Station Username, i.e. the station's username.
- Click CONNECT.
The login is kept in this tab: if you reload it, you're logged in again automatically. Exit logs you out and forgets the details.
3. Load music
- Drag audio files (MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC) from your computer onto Drop files or click, or click it to select them.
- The files stay in your browser. They are not uploaded to the station's library and don't use your package's space. ✕ Clear removes them.
- Arrange them in the Playlist Queue by dragging, and load them onto the decks.
- On the pads, double-click an empty pad to load a file as a jingle for quick playback.
4. Go on air
- Click GO LIVE. The indicator changes to ON AIR and you'll see "Broadcasting!".
- Whatever plays on the console's MASTER is sent to the station. The title of the track playing on the deck is shown to listeners as "now playing".
- For the microphone, click TALK. The first time, your browser asks for microphone permission: click Allow. The music is lowered automatically while you talk, and the MIC slider sets your voice level. Click TALK again to close the microphone.
- 🎧 sets the volume you hear yourself, without affecting the broadcast.
- To finish, click STOP. The station's AutoDJ carries on by itself.
Keep the tab visible. If you switch tabs or minimise the browser, some browsers "freeze" the tab's audio and the broadcast drops. When you come back you'll see the warning "Keep this tab visible for uninterrupted streaming". Also turn off your laptop's power saving during the show.
Recording
The Web DJ's REC buttons record on your computer. The file is downloaded to your downloads folder when you stop, and isn't saved on the server. To record on the server, use the Dashboard recording or the DJ's Auto record (DJ accounts).
Common problems
| Message / problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Invalid DJ credentials | Wrong DJ username or password, or the DJ is inactive. |
| Station not found | Wrong station name, or the service isn't active. |
| DJ … is already live | Another DJ is already broadcasting. Wait for them to disconnect. |
| You are already connected from another session | The same DJ is logged in on another tab or computer. Close the other session with Exit. |
| It says "Broadcasting!" but after a while goes back to OFF AIR | Usually the DJ is outside their allowed hours (DJ Accounts → ⋮ → Schedule), or the station is stopped. |
| Microphone access denied | Click the padlock next to the browser address and allow the microphone. Reload the page. |
| Listeners hear an echo | The speaker sound is feeding back into the microphone. Use headphones. |
| Auth timeout / Auth server unreachable / Server full | A temporary problem. Try again in a minute. If it persists, send us a ticket. |
