Multicast Radio: Playlists - creating them, ordering tracks and the active playlist

AutoDJ always plays one playlist: the active one. You can have as many playlists as you like, e.g. "Morning", "Evening", "Christmas", and switch between them by hand or automatically with the Schedule.
The playlist list
Go to Content → Playlists. Each card shows the name, description, number of tracks and total duration.
- The card with the green ACTIVE NOW strip is the one on air.
- The Default badge marks the default playlist. Every account starts with the Default Playlist. The default playlist can't be deleted and plays when no other has been set.
- The Shuffle badge means the playlist plays in random order.
New playlist
- Click New Playlist.
- Enter a Name (required) and, if you like, a Description.
- Click Create. The playlist is created empty and inactive.
Adding tracks
- On the playlist's card, click Manage.
- On the left you see the Tracks in Playlist. On the right, under Add Tracks, you see the tracks that aren't in the playlist yet.
- Add tracks in one of these ways:
- The + next to a track.
- Tick several (or Select All) and click Add.
- Choose a folder in the folder filter and click Entire folder, or Add all in a folder's header.
For large folders: "Entire folder", "Add all" and "Select All" only add the tracks shown on the current page, which is 100 by default. If the folder has more, first change Show above the list to 500, then click the button. Repeat until it says All tracks are already in the playlist.
Only tracks with the status Ready can go into playlists, and each track can appear once per playlist.
Track order
- Drag a track by its handle (Drag to reorder) or use the Up / Down buttons. You'll see Order saved!
- If the playlist has more than 100 tracks, first set Show to 500 so you see the whole list while reordering.
- With Shuffle on, the order you set is ignored: tracks play in random order, reshuffled every time the playlist completes.
Removing tracks
Click ✕ (Remove) on a track, or tick several and click Remove Selected. The track only leaves this playlist; it stays under Tracks and in your other playlists.
Shuffle (random order)
The Shuffle switch is at the top of the Manage page and is saved immediately. With Shuffle:
- the order is reshuffled when the playlist is activated, when you change it, on a restart and when a full cycle ends;
- the Avoid Repetitions settings of the Schedule work (so the same artist doesn't play too often).
The active playlist plays continuously: when it ends, it starts again from the top.
Activating a playlist
- Click the green ▶ Activate on the playlist's card, or Activate inside Manage.
- Confirm. The message says it will start playing immediately.
The track that was playing is cut and the new playlist starts. For a smooth change at a specific time, use the Schedule, which can wait for the current track to finish.
If you have a schedule: while a Playlist-type schedule is in effect, the system switches back to the schedule's playlist within about a minute. To permanently change what plays at that time, change the schedule.
Changing a playlist that's on air
Every addition, removal or reorder in the active playlist applies immediately, without cutting the track that's playing. You can also click Save Playlist to make sure the list on air is up to date. If you've set jingles for the playlist in the Schedule, after a change they come back on the playlist's next activation, e.g. from the Schedule or with the Activate button.
Default playlist
⋮ → Set as default makes a playlist the default. Careful: this also makes it active immediately and cuts the track that's playing, so the panel asks you first; click Yes to continue.
Editing and deleting
- ⋮ → Edit: change the name and description.
- ⋮ → Delete: deletes the playlist, not its tracks. The default playlist can't be deleted. If you delete the active playlist, activate another one straight away so you know what's playing.
Common problems
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| A track I didn't upload keeps playing | The active playlist is empty or its files are missing, so the system's standby track is playing. Add tracks and click Activate. |
| I switched playlist and after a minute it went back | A Playlist-type schedule is in effect. See the Schedule. |
| I used "Entire folder" but tracks are missing | Only the tracks shown on the page were added. Set Show to 500 and click again. |
| A track in the playlist never plays | Its file was probably renamed or deleted via FTP. See FTP. |
| Tracks always play in the same order | Switch on Shuffle. |
