What credits (account balance) are and how to use them

3887 views

Credits are a balance on your account, a kind of "wallet". When a proforma invoice is issued, the balance is used to pay all or part of it, without you having to pay at that moment. It's convenient if you have many services renewing on different dates, or if you'd rather not worry about expiry dates.

Where to see your balance

  • Billing → Add Funds: the Credit Balance page, with your Available credit.
  • In the menu under your name, at the top right, and as a notification under the bell.

How to add credit

  1. On the Credit Balance page, in the Add Funds card, enter the Amount. Below the field you can see the minimum and maximum amount, and the maximum balance you can hold.
  2. Click Add Funds and, in the window, Yes, continue.
  3. An "Add Funds" proforma invoice is created and you're taken to it. Pay it any way you like (How to pay a proforma invoice).
  4. The credit is added once the proforma invoice is paid.

To add credit you need at least one active service or active domain. If the Add Funds card isn't shown, the feature isn't available at the moment.

How the balance is used

  • Automatically on renewal proforma invoices issued by the system, and on upgrades. If the balance is enough, the proforma invoice is paid immediately. If not, whatever is available is deducted and you pay the difference.
  • On new orders, at the last step of the cart, you tick whether to use it.
  • Manually, on any unpaid proforma invoice, with the Use my credit button. This is needed on proforma invoices you created yourself, e.g. with "Renew service", a domain renewal or by accepting a quote.

Where else credit can come from

  • From an overpayment, when you paid more than a proforma invoice.
  • From a downgrade to a smaller package: the difference for the remaining days is credited to your balance (Upgrades and downgrades).
  • From the affiliate programme, if you choose to withdraw to credit.

Invoicing

No legal document is issued when you add credit. The invoice or receipt is issued when the credit is used to buy or renew a service, with the service's description and value. That's why no VAT is charged on the Add Funds proforma invoice; VAT is charged on the services' proforma invoices. See Proforma invoices and legal documents.

Important

  • Credit deposits are non-refundable. Add an amount you know you'll use.
  • Credit can't be transferred to another account.
  • Credit can't be used to pay another Add Funds proforma invoice.
