cPanel: Backing up and restoring files, databases and email

From cPanel you can keep your own backups and restore parts of your hosting. You log in with Login to Panel (see cPanel: Logging in).

Downloading a backup

Go to Files → Backup:

  • Full Backup: your whole account (files, databases, email, settings) in one file.
  • Partial Backups: separately your files folder (Home Directory), each database (Databases), forwarders (Email Forwarders) and email filters (Email Filters).

Download the files and keep them on your computer or other storage.

Restoring

  • In the same place (Restore), you upload a partial backup: files, a database or email settings.
  • You can do the same step by step with the Backup Wizard.
  • A Full Backup can't be restored from cPanel. Open a support ticket and we'll do it for you.

Tip: take a backup before big changes, such as WordPress updates or a theme change.
