cPanel: File Manager and FTP accounts

You log in to cPanel with Login to Panel (see cPanel: Logging in).

File Manager

  • Go to Files → File Manager. Your website's files are in the public_html folder.
  • From the toolbar: new file or folder (+File, +Folder), Upload, Download, Copy, Move, Rename, Edit, Permissions, Compress and Extract (for zip files).
  • Files you delete go to the trash (View Trash) and you can bring them back with Restore.
  • To see hidden files such as .htaccess: Settings → Show Hidden Files (dotfiles).

FTP accounts

  1. Go to Files → FTP Accounts.
  2. Fill in Log In (name), Domain, password, folder (Directory) and space (Quota).
  3. Click Create FTP Account.
  • The FTP username looks like name@yourdomain.com.
  • For an encrypted connection, enter the server's hostname (not your domain) as the server in your FTP program. If you don't know it, open a support ticket.
  • For the main cPanel account, prefer an SFTP connection.

For FTP and FileZilla in general, see What is FTP and how do I upload my files.
