Multicast Video: Your channel's public page and chat
5 viewsApplies to: Multicast Video. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
Every Multicast Video channel comes with a ready-made public page: a web page with your channel's player, your title and logo, what's playing now, what played before and, if you want, a chat for your viewers. You don't need a website of your own. Send the link to your viewers, post it on social media or print the QR code.
This article shows you where to find the page, how to customise it and how to manage the chat.
Where do I find my public page?
The address looks like https://[domain]/channel/[username]. You don't need to type it by hand:
- In the menu go to Streaming → public page and click View Channel at the top right. The page opens in a new tab; copy the address from the browser's address bar.
- Or go to Streaming → Quick Links: the Web Player row has the link with a copy button (see Quick Links, a player for your website and widgets).
- On the Dashboard, the Playback History card also has a public page button.
If you have an active Custom Domain, the same page also opens at the root of your own domain, e.g. https://tv.mystation.com/.
What viewers see
- A player with a big play button. The viewer clicks Play and the channel starts with sound.
- A status badge on the player: LIVE (live broadcast from OBS/vMix or a camera), RESTREAM (relaying another source), PLAYLIST (your videos are playing) or OFFLINE. It updates by itself every few seconds.
- The viewer count (eye icon), if you've turned it on.
- Now Playing: the current video, with a thumbnail and its duration.
- Playback History: the last 10 videos played, with their times.
- In the right-hand column, depending on your settings: Chat, Quick Links (for VLC, iPhone, Android), a QR Code and the rotating globe showing where your viewers are.
- A language selector (flag) at the top right, so viewers can see the page in their own language.
When the channel is stopped, the page shows "Channel is offline" instead of a player. If you click Start later, anyone who already has the page open must refresh it (F5) for the player to appear. Quick Links and the viewer count are also only shown while the channel is playing.
Page settings
Go to Streaming → public page. The page is called Channel Settings and has a single form. All changes are saved together with the Save button, under the Preview in the right-hand column. You'll see "Settings saved". Changes show on the page immediately, without restarting the channel.
Basic Information
- Channel Title: the name viewers see. If you leave it empty, your username is shown.
- Description: one or two sentences about the channel, e.g. what it shows or where it broadcasts from.
- Logo (the field with the file-selection button under Description): JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, up to 2 MB. A width of up to 300 pixels is recommended. To remove an existing logo, tick Delete next to it and click Save.
Appearance
- Background Color (default dark
#0a0a0f) and Accent Color (default light blue#4facfe). The accent colours buttons, card titles and details. Pick a colour from your logo. - Background Image: a JPG, PNG or WEBP background image, up to 5 MB. It covers the background colour. A 1920×1080 photo is enough. To remove it, tick Delete and click Save.
If an image is rejected (file too large or wrong type), your other changes are still saved and the previous image stays. You'll see "Settings saved" together with an error message about the image. Make it smaller and upload it again.
Visibility
Each switch shows or hides one part of the page:
| Switch | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Public Page | Turns the whole page on. If you turn it off, viewers see "Private Channel – This channel is not available." and the iframe player on your website stops working too. | On |
| Channel Title | Shows the title. | On |
| Description | Shows the description. | On |
| Now Playing | A card with the current video. | On |
| History | Recent videos. Also needed for the History widget. | On |
| Viewers | The viewer count on the player. | On |
| Quick Links | A card with links for VLC, iPhone/iPad and Android. | Off |
| QR Code | A QR code that opens the page on a phone. | Off |
| Viewers Globe | A rotating globe with your viewers' locations. | Off |
| Globe Position | Top, Middle or Bottom of the right-hand column. | Top |
Chat for your viewers
The Chat card has two switches, and a working chat needs both:
- Show Chat (on by default): shows the chat box on the page.
- Enable Chat (off by default): lets viewers send messages.
If Show is on but Enable is off, viewers see the box marked Offline with "Chat is disabled". If you turn Show off, the chat disappears completely. The number next to the card title shows how many messages there are.
Turning on the chat step by step
- Go to Streaming → public page.
- In the Chat card, turn on Enable Chat and make sure Show Chat is on.
- Click Save.
- Click View Channel and try writing a message.
How viewers write
- The viewer first types a name in the Your name field (2-30 characters). Once it's filled in, the Write a message... field becomes active. The browser remembers the name for next time.
- Each message can be up to 500 characters. There's also an emoji button.
- A viewer can send one message every 3 seconds. If they go faster, they see a message (in Greek) asking them to wait a little.
- New messages appear by themselves within a few seconds. The channel's last 500 messages are kept; older ones are deleted automatically.
Writing as the channel owner
If you're logged in to the panel and open the public page in the same browser, your messages are shown differently, as messages from the channel. In that case you also see a Settings button at the top right that takes you back to the panel.
Managing the chat
Deleting a message or banning a viewer
- Log in to the panel and open the public page in the same browser (View Channel button).
- Next to each message you'll see two small icons: the bin (delete) and the no-entry circle (ban).
- Click the bin and confirm in the Delete Message window. The message disappears for everyone.
- To stop someone from writing again, click the no-entry circle and confirm in Ban User. You'll see "User has been banned".
The ban is based on the internet connection (IP address) the viewer wrote from, not on their name, so changing name isn't enough to write again. A banned viewer can still watch the channel, but if they try to write they get a message (in Greek) saying they've been banned from the chat. The ban lasts until you lift it. Keep in mind that people sharing the same connection (e.g. the same home or office) are banned together.
Lifting a ban
- Go to Streaming → public page, Chat card → Chat Management. It shows how many banned users there are.
- Click Bans. The Banned Users list opens.
- Next to the viewer (their name and IP are shown) click Unban and confirm again with Unban in the Unban User window.
Clearing all messages
- In Chat Management, click Clear.
- In the Clear Chat window ("Delete all messages?") click Delete.
- You'll see "Chat history cleared!".
This can't be undone: clearing deletes all messages permanently. They aren't included in the Backup either.
Tips
- Turn on the QR Code and print it on posters or show it on screen, so viewers can open the page from their phones.
- If you want the chat or the history inside your own website, use the Widgets. The Chat and History widgets follow the switches on this page.
- If you want an address like
https://tv.mystation.com, see Custom Domain with HTTPS.
Messages / Common problems
| Message or problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Logo: Max 2MB, only JPG/PNG/GIF/WEBP" | The logo is too large or isn't an image. Make it smaller and upload it again. Your other changes have been saved. |
| "Background: Max 5MB, only JPG/PNG/WEBP" | The same for the background image. GIF isn't accepted as a background. |
| Viewers see "Private Channel" | The Public Page switch is off. Turn it on and click Save. |
| Viewers see "Channel is offline" | The channel is stopped. Click Start on the Dashboard and ask viewers to refresh the page. |
| The page doesn't open at all (error page) | Check that the service is active in the Client Area. While suspended, the page isn't shown. |
| The chat says "Chat is disabled" | Turn on Enable Chat and click Save. |
| I don't see the bin and ban icons next to messages | You're not logged in to the panel in the same browser. Log in and open the page with the View Channel button. |
| "Το όνομα πρέπει να είναι 2-30 χαρακτήρες" (name must be 2-30 characters) | The viewer must enter a name of 2 to 30 characters. |
| "Περιμένετε λίγο πριν στείλετε άλλο μήνυμα" (wait a little before sending another message) | The viewer sent messages too quickly. They can write again after 3 seconds. |
| "Έχετε αποκλειστεί από το chat" (you have been banned from the chat) | The viewer is banned. If it was a mistake, lift the ban from Bans. |
| Quick Links or the viewer count don't appear | They're only shown while the channel is playing, and only if the matching switches are on. |
