Multicast Video: Quick Links, a player for your website and widgets
1 viewsApplies to: Multicast Video. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
Once your channel is playing, you want as many people as possible to watch it: from your website, on their phones, in VLC or in apps. The panel gives you ready-made links and ready-made code on two pages:
- Streaming → Quick Links: your channel's links and code for a player on your website (in an iframe or with your own player).
- Streaming → Widgets: small "windows" for your website: player, chat, history, viewer map, viewer counter, links.
You don't need to know how to code. You just need to be able to paste a piece of code into a page on your website (e.g. in WordPress with a "Custom HTML" block).
Quick Links
The page is titled "Quick Links & Players" and shows at the top right whether the channel is LIVE (playing) or OFFLINE (stopped). It has three tabs: Quick Links, Embed Players and iFrame.
The Quick Links tab
The Direct Stream Links card contains:
| Row | What it is | Where to use it |
|---|---|---|
| HLS Stream URL | Your channel's direct stream. It ends in /stream/[username]/index.m3u8. | Apps, smart TVs, your own players, other platforms that ask for an "m3u8 link". |
| VLC Media Player | A Download .m3u8 button: it downloads a small file that opens in VLC. | To watch the channel on a computer without a browser. |
| Web Player | Your channel's public page. | To send the link to viewers and post it on social media. |
| iPhone / iPad | Copies the HLS URL. | Paste it into Safari. |
| Android | Copies the HLS URL. | Paste it into VLC for Android or MX Player. |
Every row has a copy button. All links start with https://, so they also work on websites that use HTTPS. On the right there's also a QR Code that opens the public page on a phone.
The Usage Instructions card has the steps for each device:
- VLC (computer): click Download .m3u8, open the file with VLC and playback starts. Alternatively, in VLC click Media → Open Network Stream and paste the HLS URL.
- iPhone / iPad: copy the HLS URL, open Safari and paste it. Alternatively, open the Web Player link in Safari.
- Android: install VLC for Android or MX Player, copy the HLS URL, and in VLC tap More → Stream → New Stream and paste it.
Good to know: the HLS URL doesn't change as long as your username doesn't change. If you activate a Custom Domain, you'll also get new addresses on your own domain. The Quick Links page keeps showing the original ones, which also keep working.
The iFrame tab: the easiest way for your website
The iFrame is a ready-made player that we host and that simply appears inside your page. It's the easiest option, because you don't need anything else.
- Go to Streaming → Quick Links → the iFrame tab.
- Choose a size: enter Width and Height, or click one of the presets 640x360, 854x480, 1280x720 or Responsive.
- In the iFrame Options card, tick what you need:
- Autoplay: the player starts by itself, without the viewer clicking Play.
- Muted: it starts without sound. Most browsers only allow automatic playback without sound, so if you want Autoplay, tick Muted as well. The viewer turns the sound on from the player.
- Responsive Container: the player adapts to the width of the page, in 16:9 proportions. We recommend it for websites that are also visited on phones.
- Click Copy at the top right of the code.
- Paste the code into your website's page, where you want the player. In WordPress use a "Custom HTML" block.
- Save your website's page and open it to check.
The Direct Embed URL card shows the plain address of the player (it ends in /embed/[username]), in case your website only asks for a URL for an iframe. The Preview only shows the player while the channel is playing; otherwise it says "Stream is offline".
Two things to know about the iframe player:
1. If the channel is stopped when the viewer opens the page, the player says "Offline" and doesn't retry by itself. Once you start the channel, the viewer has to refresh the page.
2. If you turn off the Public Page switch on your public page, the iframe player stops working ("Channel is private"). Leave it on.
The Embed Players tab: your own player
If you want the player inside your page's own code (not in an iframe), choose one of the ready-made ones:
- HTML5 Player: a simple player that works in all browsers. The safest choice.
- Video.js Player and Plyr Player: nicer-looking controls.
- JW Player 8, Flowplayer, Clappr: for those who already use one of these on their website.
- Minimal Code: just the essentials, for those who'll customise it themselves.
- Click the player you want. The Preview on the right shows how it will look (while the channel is playing).
- In the Embed Code card, click Copy.
- Paste the whole code into your website's page, just like with the iFrame.
If you're not sure which one to pick, go with the iFrame or the HTML5 Player.
Widgets
Go to Streaming → Widgets. The page shows six widgets, each with a live preview and ready-made iframe code for your website:
| Widget | What it shows | Default size |
|---|---|---|
| Player | Your channel's player. | 640 × 360 |
| Viewer Locations Map | A map of where your viewers are right now. | 600 × 400 |
| Playback History | The videos played recently. | 400 × 350 |
| Chat | The chat from your public page. | 350 × 500 |
| Quick Links | Links for VLC, phones etc. | 400 × 420 |
| Viewers | A counter of current viewers. | 280 × 240 |
Step by step
- On the widget you want, choose a theme: Dark or Light, to match your website's colours. The preview changes immediately.
- If needed, change the width (W) and height (H) in pixels.
- Click Copy.
- Paste the code into your website (e.g. a "Custom HTML" block in WordPress) and save.
You can add as many widgets as you like, even the same one on several pages.
When a widget says "Not available"
- Playback History: needs the History switch turned on in your public page settings.
- Chat: needs the Show Chat switch turned on. For viewers to be able to write, also turn on Enable Chat. The messages are the same as on the public page and you manage them from there.
Viewer limit
Every way of watching (public page, iframe, widgets, VLC, apps using the HLS URL) counts towards the same concurrent viewer limit of your package. You can see it under Settings → My Package → Max Viewers. When the limit is reached, extra viewers can't load the channel (their player seems to "hang" or shows an error). Viewers sharing the same internet connection count as one. If the limit is too small for you, see Upgrading your package. Viewers watching you on YouTube or Facebook through Stream Targets don't count towards this limit.
Messages / Common problems
| Message or problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The player on my website says "Offline" | The channel was stopped when the page opened. Click Start on the Dashboard and refresh your website's page. |
| "Channel is private" | The Public Page switch on your public page is off. Turn it on and click Save. |
| "Channel not found" or "Not available" everywhere | The service is suspended. Check its status in the Client Area (Paying a proforma invoice). |
| The player doesn't start by itself, even though I ticked Autoplay | The browser blocks automatic playback with sound. Tick Muted too, click Copy again and replace the code on your website. |
| The player looks small or cut off on phones | Use Responsive Container (or the Responsive button) and replace the code. |
| The code shows up as text on my website | You pasted it into a plain text field. Use an HTML block or your editor's code view. |
| New viewers can't watch the channel, existing ones can | The viewer limit has most likely been reached. See Settings → My Package. |
| The History or Chat widget says "Not available" | Turn on the matching switch on your public page (see above). |
| The Preview says "Stream is offline" | The channel is stopped. The code is fine; it will work as soon as you start the channel. |
