Transferring a domain to Magic Streams from another registrar (EPP code)

If your domain is with another registrar and you want to manage it from the Client Area alongside your other services, transfer it. Your website and email keep working during the transfer, because the nameservers don't change.

Before you start

  1. Get the EPP code (also called Auth code or authorization code) from your current registrar.
    • For .gr / .ελ, the Registry emails the code to the domain's owner. Ask your current registrar for it and check the owner's email.
    • For other extensions, the code is usually in your registrar's control panel, or you can ask their support for it.
  2. Unlock the domain (Registrar Lock / Transfer Lock) at your current registrar, where applicable. .gr domains have no such lock.
  3. Check that the domain isn't expiring in the next few days and that at least 60 days have passed since it was registered or last transferred. For international extensions this is an ICANN rule.
  4. Make sure the owner's email in WHOIS is correct. For some extensions an approval email is sent there.

Steps

  1. Go to Domains → Transfer.
  2. Type the domain and click Check transfer.
  3. If it can be transferred, click Transfer Domain.
  4. On the form:
    • Period: for most extensions, a transfer extends the expiry date by one year.
    • EPP/Transfer Code: paste the code. Watch out for capitals and spaces at the start or end.
    • Nameservers: so nothing is interrupted, enter the nameservers the domain has now (shown in WHOIS or at your current registrar). You can change them later whenever you like.
    • Addons (DNS Management, ID Protection), if you need them.
  5. Click Add to cart, complete the order and pay.

What happens after payment

  • The transfer is submitted automatically and the domain shows as Pending Transfer. You receive a "Transfer initiated" email.
  • .gr / .ελ: the transfer usually completes immediately after payment. The owner doesn't change: it stays as registered at the Registry.
  • .com, .net and other international extensions: the transfer usually takes up to 5-7 days. The old registrar may email you so you can approve it sooner; if you do nothing, it's approved automatically.
  • When it completes, you receive an email and the domain becomes Active under My Domains. Until then its management page won't open; you'll see "The transfer of the domain is in progress".

If the EPP code wasn't accepted

If the transfer fails because of the code, My Domains shows a New EPP code button next to the domain:

  1. Ask your current registrar for a new code (for .gr: the code goes to the owner's email).
  2. Click New EPP code, paste the code and click Submit transfer.
  3. The transfer is resubmitted immediately, with no new charge. You'll see "The domain transfer has been resubmitted with the new code".

3 attempts per 24 hours are allowed for each domain.

Free hosting with a transfer

For some extensions, after the transfer you can enable free hosting from the domain's page. It isn't enabled automatically: see Parking and free hosting.
