Domain parking, redirect and free hosting for my domain
1 viewsIf you have a domain without a website yet, you have two options from the domain's page: park it (it shows a parking page or redirects to another site) or turn on free hosting, where available, for a simple website. Both change the domain's nameservers.
Domain parking
- Go to Domains → My Domains → Manage on the domain.
- In the Domain Parking card, click Park domain.
- Confirm. You'll see that the domain was parked and the nameservers were updated.
- Within a few hours (DNS propagation) the domain shows the parking page.
Redirect to another site (optional)
If you want the domain to send visitors to another address (e.g. your Facebook page or another domain of yours):
- With the domain parked, under redirect management enter the full redirect URL, e.g.
https://www.example.com/. - Click to create the redirect.
- You can test it with the visit button, and remove the redirect when you no longer need it.
Unparking
Click Unpark domain. The nameservers don't go back to the previous ones automatically: set the ones you want straight away from the Nameservers card (instructions), otherwise the domain won't point anywhere.
Parking isn't possible if the domain has active hosting with us. If the domain expires, parking stops.
Free hosting
For some extensions, an active domain with us can come with a free 100MB hosting package, suitable for a simple website or a "coming soon" page. If it's available for your domain, you'll see the Free Hosting card on its page.
- In the Free Hosting card, read the warning: the nameservers will change to ours. If your email runs elsewhere, first read the warning in the nameservers article.
- Click to enable free hosting and confirm.
- You'll see that free hosting was enabled and will be set up automatically soon. The account is created by the next day, and you then receive an email with the login details.
- The hosting shows up under Services → My Services.
- If you transfer a domain in from another provider, free hosting isn't turned on automatically: click the button once the transfer has completed.
- Free hosting lasts as long as the domain is active. If the domain expires, the hosting is suspended or deleted. Keep copies of your website.
- To turn it off, click to disable free hosting and confirm.
- If you already have other hosting for the same domain, you can't also enable the free one.
- If your website grows, you can get a regular hosting package. Send us a ticket and we'll help you move it.
I can't see the cards
The Domain Parking and Free Hosting cards only show for active domains and for the extensions that support them. If the domain is active and you don't see them, the service isn't available for that extension.
