cPanel: SSL certificate and redirecting your website to HTTPS

10776 views

With HTTPS your website loads encrypted and the browser shows the padlock. You need an SSL certificate and a redirect from http to https. You log in to cPanel with Login to Panel (see cPanel: Logging in).

1. Check the certificate

Go to Security → SSL/TLS Status. It shows whether each domain has a valid certificate. Free AutoSSL certificates are issued and renewed automatically.

If a domain has no certificate or you see an AutoSSL problem, it's usually because the domain doesn't point to our server yet (see Nameservers). If everything is right and it still isn't issued, open a support ticket.

2. Turn on the HTTPS redirect

  1. Go to Domains → Domains.
  2. In the Force HTTPS Redirect column, switch your domain to On.

The switch only works when the domain has a valid certificate.

WordPress

If you have WordPress, also change your site's addresses to https: see cPanel: WordPress on HTTPS.

If you then see "not secure" or a padlock with a warning, see My website shows as not secure.
