Multicast Radio: Managing your tracks - folders, details, covers, volume and duplicates

The Content → Tracks page is your station's library. Here you organise music into folders, fix titles and covers, bring all tracks to the same volume, mark jingles and clean up duplicates.

The screen at a glance

  • Left, Folders: All Tracks, No folder and your folders, with the number of tracks next to each. An orange number means the folder contains files uploaded via FTP that haven't been added to the library yet (see FTP).
  • Right, the list: each track with cover, duration, artist, format, bitrate, and badges for the playlists it belongs to. The newest tracks appear first.
  • Tools: search, status filter, tracks per page (10 / 20 / 50 / 100), Normalize all, Find Duplicates and Upload.

The ▶ next to each track plays it in your browser so you can check it. It does not put it on air; that's what Studio is for.

Search

Type at least 2 characters in Search.... Results appear as you type. The search looks in the title, artist, album, year and file name, and finds Greek, Greeklish and Latin spellings: "kalimera" finds "Καλημέρα". It only searches the folder you have open, not its subfolders. To search everywhere, open All Tracks first.

Folders

New folder

  1. Click + New Folder... below the folder list.
  2. Type a name. Greek and Latin letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens and underscores are allowed; other characters are removed.
  3. Click Create.

Moving tracks into a folder

  1. Tick the tracks (or Select All) and click Move in the bar that appears. For a single track, use ⋮ → Move.
  2. In Select folder, choose a folder, or type a name in Or create new.
  3. Click Move.

Moving doesn't affect playlists: the track stays in the playlists it was already in.

Deleting a folder

Hover over the folder and click the bin. Careful: this permanently deletes every track in the folder and its subfolders, together with any FTP files there, and removes them from all playlists. It cannot be undone.

Editing a track

Click ⋮ → Edit. The window has three tabs.

1. Details and cover

  • Title, Artist, Album, Year and Description. Title and artist are what listeners see in their players.
  • Cover Image: JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP. The image is cropped square to 300×300, so use a square image with the subject in the centre. Remove deletes the cover.

Click Save. For MP3s, the changes are also written into the file, so they stay if you download it. If the track is in a playlist that's on air, the new title appears the next time it plays.

2. Trim

To cut silence or talk at the start or end of a track:

  1. Drag the green handle (start) and the red handle (end) on the waveform, or type times into Start / End as minutes:seconds.
  2. Click Preview to hear the result.
  3. Click Trim & Save and confirm.

The file is changed permanently. If you also want the original version, keep a copy on your computer. Trimming works with MP3 files.

3. Volume

You see the track's Current loudness in LUFS, marked Quiet, Normal or Loud. The Target is -12 LUFS, the usual level for radio.

  • Normalize loudness: brings the track to -12 LUFS so it sounds as loud as the rest.
  • Manual adjustment (dB): raise or lower the volume between -10 and +10 dB and click Apply.

Both changes are permanent and rewrite the file as MP3. Use them preferably on MP3 tracks.

Normalize all

The green Normalize all button brings all tracks to the same volume in one go:

  • From All Tracks it affects the whole library.
  • Inside a folder it affects that folder and its subfolders.
  • From No folder it affects only tracks without a folder.

The job runs in the background and you can follow its progress (Normalization in progress). You can close the page. Tracks already close to the right level are skipped. At the end you'll see how many were normalized, how many were already fine and how many failed. The files are changed permanently.

An alternative that doesn't change your files: Audio Processing has loudness normalization that is applied while broadcasting, without changing the files.

Jingles

To use a file as a jingle (station ID, show opener etc.):

  1. Click ⋮ → Mark as Jingle. You'll see the "Jingle" badge with a star.
  2. The jingle now appears as a button in Studio and in the jingle options of the Schedule.

Jingles don't appear in the Schedule's track list and don't count towards Radio Spots' "Every X tracks". If the jingle is already in a playlist, remove it from there so it doesn't play like a normal track.

Adding to a playlist from here

Click ⋮ → To playlist, choose a playlist and click Add. For many tracks at once, the Playlists page is quicker.

Deleting tracks

For a single track click ⋮ → Delete. For several, tick them and click Delete in the bar. Deleting is permanent: it removes the file, takes it out of every playlist and frees the space.

Duplicates

If you've uploaded the same track twice, the Find Duplicates page helps you find it and save space.

  1. Click Find Duplicates. At the top you see how many Duplicate groups were found, how many Duplicate files, and the Potential savings in space.
  2. Tracks are grouped by file name, or by artist and title (Matched by metadata), or by title only (Matched by title). Be careful with the last kind: two different songs can share a title.
  3. In each group click Keep newest or Keep largest (the larger file is usually better quality), or choose by hand with Keep this / Mark for deletion. For all groups at once there are Keep newest (all) and Keep largest (all).
  4. Click Delete Selected and confirm with Delete permanently.

If you see All your tracks are unique!, no duplicates were found.

Frequently asked questions

  • I renamed a file via FTP and it disappeared from my playlist. Renaming, moving and deleting should be done on this page, not via FTP. See FTP.
  • Where are my recordings? In the records folder.
  • Search can't find a track I know is there. Make sure you're in All Tracks and not inside a folder.
