Multicast Radio: Dashboard and Studio - controlling your station in real time
8 viewsApplies to: Multicast Radio. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
The Dashboard is the panel's home page. At a glance it shows whether your station is on air, what's playing, how many people are listening and how much space you have. Studio is a full-screen console for running your station live: you play tracks on the spot, fire jingles and switch playlists with one click.
Dashboard
What you see
- Four counters: Total Tracks, Ready for Stream, Playlists and Scheduled.
- Stream Control: the station status (Active or Stopped), what's playing now, how many people are listening (Listeners now), today's peak (Peak today) and storage use. The storage bar turns orange above 70% and red above 90%.
- Quick Actions and a small player for listening to your station.
- Playback History: the last 20 tracks.
- Listeners: a map of the people listening right now and a list with country and city.
- FTP Access and Server Connection: the connection details. See Your station's connection details and listening links.
The badge next to "now playing" shows where the audio is coming from:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Playlist | AutoDJ is playing the active playlist. |
| LIVE | A DJ or broadcasting software is live. |
| RESTREAM | Another station is being relayed. See Relaying another station. |
The Stream Control buttons
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start | Starts the station: first the streaming server, then AutoDJ. |
| Stop | Stops the station. All listeners are disconnected and the station stays off air until you press Start. |
| Restart | Stop and Start in one go. Needed after changes in Stream Settings. Listeners lose the audio for a few seconds. |
| Next | Skips to the next track immediately. |
| Reload | Re-reads the active playlist, e.g. if you made changes and want them to apply right away. |
| Talk | Records a message from your microphone and plays it over the music (see below). |
Next, Reload and Talk only appear while the station is playing and your package has AutoDJ. Start, Stop and Restart ask for confirmation. The confirmation box always has the buttons Ναι (Yes) / Άκυρο (Cancel).
A message over the music (Talk)
- Click Talk. The first time, your browser asks for microphone permission: click Allow.
- Speak. The button shows a countdown; the maximum is 60 seconds.
- Click the button again to stop. The message is sent, its volume is levelled and it plays over the music, which is lowered while you speak. You'll see Talkover played.
Good to know: Talk is not a live microphone. The message is recorded first and plays once you stop. To broadcast live, use the Web DJ or broadcasting software. If you see Microphone error, your browser has no microphone permission: click the padlock next to the address and allow it.
Your own title for listeners
Want listeners to see something else for a while instead of the track title, e.g. "Live: Morning Show"?
- Click the pencil next to the title that is playing now.
- Type the title (up to 200 characters) and click Apply.
The title stays until the track changes or until you click Clear. To hide titles permanently, see the "Disable Track Titles" setting in Stream Settings.
Recording a live show or a restream
While a DJ is on air (LIVE) or a restream is running (RESTREAM), a red Record button appears:
- Click Record. You'll see Recording started and a timer.
- Click Stop to finish.
The recording is saved as an MP3 (192 kbps) under Tracks, in the records folder, and uses space from your package. If the DJ on air has no recording permission, you'll see This DJ does not have recording permission. Permission is given under DJ accounts.
Studio
Open it from Main → Studio. It opens full screen, without the panel menu. Studio requires a package with AutoDJ.
What's on the screen
- Top bar: local time, how long the track has been playing, listeners, status (ONLINE / OFFLINE / LIVE), the Talk button and shortcuts to the Dashboard, full screen, settings and logout.
- Left: the active playlist and its tracks. The ▶ next to each track (Play now) puts it on air immediately.
- Centre: Now playing with cover and countdown, and three tabs below:
- Music: search through all your music. It also finds Greek written in Latin characters: "kalimera" finds "Καλημέρα".
- Schedule: what is scheduled for today.
- Playlists: all your playlists. Clicking a card asks you first; after Confirm it becomes active immediately and the track playing stops.
- Jingles: coloured buttons for the tracks you've marked as jingles. One click plays the jingle over the music, which is lowered for a moment. The buttons appear as soon as you mark at least one track as a jingle (Managing your tracks).
- Right: Stream Control (Start, Stop, Restart, Skip, reload playlist), the status of your Stream Targets with start and stop buttons, and statistics.
- Bottom bar: the Next track and quick links.
Rules worth knowing
- Play now only works while the station is playing. The track that was playing is cut.
- If you switch playlist from Studio while a schedule with another playlist is running, the schedule switches it back within about a minute. See Schedule.
- Talk in Studio has a 60-second limit, followed by a 10-second wait. Very short recordings (under about a second) are not sent.
- After Start, Stop or Restart, Studio reloads itself after 2 seconds.
Common problems
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| I clicked Start, it says Active, but the same track I didn't upload keeps playing | The active playlist is empty, so the system's standby track is playing. Add tracks to the playlist (Playlists). |
| The Next / Talk buttons don't appear | The station is stopped, or your package is live-only. |
| The Online / Offline indicator in the top bar doesn't match the Dashboard | Trust the Stream Control card, which refreshes every 5 seconds. |
| Recording won't start: "Stream not running" | The station isn't playing. Click Start. |
