RadioBOSS (djsoft.net) is radio automation software for Windows, with playlists, scheduling, jingles and adverts. It can send its audio straight to your station. This guide shows you how to connect it to Multicast Radio.
Menu names may differ slightly between RadioBOSS versions; the logic is the same in all of them.
What you need
- RadioBOSS installed on Windows.
- The connection details:
- Package with AutoDJ: create a DJ account and take the details from DJ Accounts → ⋮ → Connection Guide (DJ accounts).
- Live-only package: Dashboard → Server Connection (Connection details).
- The station must be playing (Dashboard → Start).
1. Add the connection
- In RadioBOSS open Settings → Broadcasting.
- Click Add (or "+") for a new encoder.
- Under Type / Server type choose Icecast.
- Fill in:
RadioBOSS field Package with AutoDJ (as a DJ) Live-only package (direct) Server / Address Server from the Connection Guide Server from Server Connection Port The DJ Port (Source Port) The Stream Port Mount point /live/streamLogin / Username The DJ's username sourcePassword The DJ's password The Source Password - For the audio format (Format / Encoder) choose MP3, 128 kbps (or 192 kbps), 44100 Hz, Stereo.
- In the station information (Name, Genre, URL) you can enter your station name. Make sure sending titles (metadata / "Send track titles") is enabled so listeners see the track.
- Click OK and close the settings.
2. Start broadcasting
- In RadioBOSS's main window, switch broadcasting on (the Broadcasting / Start broadcast button or menu).
- The broadcasting indicator turns green or says "Connected".
- On the panel's Dashboard you'll see LIVE and the track RadioBOSS is playing.
When you stop broadcasting or close RadioBOSS, your station's AutoDJ carries on automatically within one or two seconds. On a live-only package, the station goes silent until you reconnect.
Microphone
To talk over the music, set up your microphone device in RadioBOSS's settings (Settings → Mic / Input) and use the microphone button in the main window. Whatever plays on RadioBOSS's output, together with the microphone, is sent to your station.
RadioBOSS 24 hours a day, or AutoDJ?
If RadioBOSS plays around the clock from your computer, your station depends on that computer and its connection. A power or internet cut means silence, unless you have a package with AutoDJ, in which case the server's playlist carries on. Our recommended combination: base music on the server's AutoDJ (Playlists, Schedule), and RadioBOSS only for live shows.
Common problems
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| It won't connect (connection error / refused) | The station is stopped, the port is wrong, or Windows Firewall is blocking RadioBOSS. Allow it through the firewall. |
| Wrong password / authentication | Check Login and Password. As a DJ, Login is the DJ's username, not "source". Check the DJ is active and within their allowed hours. |
| Listeners don't see track titles | Enable sending metadata in the encoder settings, and check that "Disable Track Titles" is not switched on in Stream Settings. |
| Listeners still hear AutoDJ | RadioBOSS hasn't connected. Check the broadcasting indicator and the messages in its log. |
| The quality sounds low | The final quality is set in the panel's Stream Settings. Check the bitrate there. |
