With Song Requests, listeners choose a track from your music and, if you allow it, send a dedication. You decide whether requests play automatically or after your approval. Requests are made from your station's public page or from a widget on your website.

Enabling and settings

  1. Go to Streaming → Song Requests.
  2. Click Settings (the gear). You can also turn them on with the quick Enable button in the yellow bar.
  3. Set:
    SettingWhat it does
    Enable requestsOpens requests.
Auto approveRequests are approved without you seeing them. Without it, they stay "Pending" until you approve them.
Auto-play requestsApproved requests play by themselves, at most one per minute, each right after the current track. Without it, they only play when you click Play now.
Require nameThe listener must enter a name.
Allow dedicationsA dedication field is shown.
Active playlist onlyListeners only see the tracks of the playlist that's playing. If you turn it off, they see all your tracks, including jingles, spots and recordings, so we recommend leaving it on.
Show requests on pageShows the request form on your station's public page.
Request cooldown (minutes)How long the same listener must wait between two requests (default 30).
Song cooldown (minutes)How long before the same track can be requested again (default 60).
Max pending requestsHow many requests can wait at the same time (default 10).
  4. Save. You'll see Settings saved and the bar turns green.

A good starting point: Auto approve and Auto-play on, Active playlist only on, Allow dedications on.

Turning off: when you turn requests off, all their settings go back to the defaults. Next time you turn them on, check the Settings.

How a listener makes a request

  1. They open your station's public page or the widget on your website.
  2. They search in Search songs... and select a track.
  3. They enter Your Name and, if they like, a Dedication.
  4. They click Send Request and see "Your request has been added to the queue!" or "Your request is pending approval.".

The Request Queue shows what has been requested. Offensive words in names and dedications are hidden automatically.

Managing requests

At the top of the page you see how many are Pending, how many were approved, how many were Played and how many came in Today. A red number next to the menu item shows the pending ones.

  • Queue: for each request you see the track, name, time and dedication.
    • Approve / Reject (pending ones only). When rejecting you can note a reason for your own reference; the listener doesn't see it.
    • Play now: the track plays as soon as the current one ends.
    • Delete.
  • History: the last 50 played or rejected requests. Clear played deletes them.

The page refreshes by itself every 15 seconds.

Request widget for your website

  1. Click the widget button at the top of the page (next to Settings).
  2. Choose the Widget Theme (Dark, Light or Auto) and Widget Language.
  3. Copy the Embed code (Copy code) and paste it into your website, or share the Direct link.

The same widget, plus one that shows dedications, is also on the Widgets page (Players and widgets for your website).

Good to know

  • If a request is queued while a DJ is live, it's dropped when the DJ disconnects. During live shows, the DJ sees the requests and plays them from their own software.
  • Requests count towards Radio Spots' "Every X tracks".
  • The cooldown applies per connection (IP address). Listeners on the same network, e.g. one office, share the same limit.
