When you have a lot of music (hundreds or thousands of tracks), FTP is the fastest and most reliable way to upload it. If the connection drops, the FTP program carries on from where it stopped. There are two parts: you upload the files with an FTP program, then you add them to your library (Import) from the panel.

Your FTP details

Go to Account → FTP Access. The FTP Connection card shows:

FieldWhat it is
HostThe FTP server address.
PortThe port, usually 21.
UsernameYour panel username.
PasswordYour FTP password. It is different from your panel password.

The same details are also on the Dashboard (FTP Access card) and in Settings. In Settings you can set a new FTP password with Regenerate.

Connecting with FileZilla

  1. Download and install FileZilla Client (free, from filezilla-project.org). Make sure you download the Client, not the Server.
  2. Open it and go to File → Site Manager → New site.
  3. Fill in:
    • Protocol: FTP
    • Host: the Host from the panel
    • Port: the Port from the panel (usually 21)
    • Encryption: "Require explicit FTP over TLS", for a secure connection
    • Logon Type: Normal
    • User and Password: from the panel (use the copy buttons)
  4. Click Connect. The first time, it shows you the server's certificate: tick "Always trust this certificate" and click OK.
  5. On the right you see your station's space. This is the "root" of your music. Its subfolders are the same folders you see under Tracks.
  6. Drag files from the left (your computer) to the right. The progress is shown at the bottom.

Accepted formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC (and WMA for Import). What you upload counts towards your package's storage.

Adding to your library (Import)

Automatically, for files in the main folder

Audio files (MP3, AAC, OGG, FLAC, WAV, M4A) you upload directly into the main folder (not a subfolder) are added to Tracks automatically within about 5 minutes. For each one you get a bell notification "Νέο τραγούδι από FTP" (New track from FTP). If your package storage is full, the file isn't added and you're notified.

Manually, for subfolders or if you're in a hurry

Files in subfolders (and WMA files) aren't added automatically. For those, or if you don't want to wait, Import them:

  1. Go to Account → FTP Access. The FTP Files page lists what you uploaded.
  2. Each audio file has an Import button, or the label Imported if it has already been added. Folders show how many files are to import.
  3. To import everything, click Import All. For specific files, click Select tracks, tick them and click Import Selected.
  4. You'll see how many tracks added and how many failed.
Important: the list shows 50 files at first, and Import All only imports the files shown on the page. If you have more, click Load More until they're all listed before clicking Import All, or repeat Import All until none are left.

During Import the file's tags are read (title, artist, cover), just as with uploading from the browser. The file name is cleaned of special characters and Greek is written in Latin characters. The title listeners see doesn't change.

What happens to folders

Files imported from a subfolder are moved to the main area and appear under Tracks as No folder. To organise them, after the Import go to Tracks → No folder, select them and click Move (Managing your tracks).

What else you can do on the FTP Files page

  • Open a folder, + New Folder...
  • Download a file, or Download selected as a ZIP. In the ZIP all files are placed together, without folders.
  • Rename and delete files and folders.

Don't rename or delete tracks via FTP

Once a file has been imported, the panel tracks it by its name and location. If you rename, move or delete it with FileZilla or on the FTP Files page:

  • the track stops playing, because the playlist can't find the file;
  • within about 5 minutes it's removed automatically from the library and from every playlist (you'll see a notification "Τραγούδι διαγράφηκε", Track deleted);
  • if you renamed it in the main folder, it's added again as a new track, outside your playlists.

To rename, move or delete tracks, always use the Tracks page. Use FTP for uploading and for downloading copies.

Common problems

ProblemSolution
FileZilla says "530 Login incorrect"Wrong username or password. Remember the FTP password is different from the panel password. Copy it again from the panel, or set a new one under Settings → FTP Access → Regenerate.
It connects but hangs at "Retrieving directory listing"Your network is blocking the transfer. In Site Manager → Transfer Settings tab, make sure the mode is Passive. If it continues, try another network or temporarily disable your computer's antivirus/firewall.
The transfer stops with a space or "quota" errorYour package's space is full. Delete tracks you don't need or upgrade your package.
On Import: "Storage limit exceeded"There isn't enough space to add the files to the library. As above.
On Import: "Μόνο αρχεία ήχου υποστηρίζονται" (only audio files are supported)The file isn't an audio file (e.g. an image or .txt). It doesn't need importing.
The FTP password in the panel shows as a long unreadable stringClick Regenerate under FTP Access in Settings to set a new password.
