Changing the owner (transfer of ownership) of a .gr domain with gov.gr solemn declarations

A .gr or .ελ domain is registered in the name of a person or company, the registrant. If the domain needs to pass to someone else (e.g. from an individual to a company, or to a new business owner), it needs an ownership transfer at the registry. It's a chargeable action and is done in 3 steps:

  1. A request from the domain page and payment of the fee.
  2. A solemn declaration from the current and the new registrant, via gov.gr.
  3. Sending us the two declarations. We complete the transfer at the registry.
You don't need an ownership transfer if: you only want to change the registrant's address, email or phone (these change free of charge from the Contact Information card), or you want to move the domain to another provider without changing the owner (Transferring a domain to another provider).

Requirements

  • The domain is active (not expired). If it expires soon, renew it first (Domain expiry and renewal).
  • Both sides agree, and both have Taxisnet credentials for gov.gr. For a company, the declaration is made by its legal representative.
  • You have the new registrant's full details: full name or exact company name, Tax ID (ΑΦΜ), tax office (ΔΟΥ), address, city, phone, email.

Step 1: Request and payment

  1. Go to Domains → My Domains → Manage on the domain.
  2. Find the Change of owner card. It also shows the change of owner cost (excl. VAT).
  3. Choose Individual or Organization.
  4. Fill in the new registrant's details: First and Last name (or Company name and Tax ID), Email, Phone, Address, City, Postcode, Country.
  5. Click Request & pay and confirm. A proforma invoice is created and you're taken to it.
  6. Pay it (How to pay a proforma invoice).

Until payment, the card says there's a pending request and shows a button to pay the proforma invoice. After payment it says the request is being processed.

If you can't see the card (e.g. the domain isn't .gr/.ελ or isn't active), send us a support ticket with the new registrant's details.

Step 2: The two solemn declarations on gov.gr

The process is done both by the person giving the domain and by the person receiving it, each with their own credentials. No signature certification or post is needed. gov.gr is in Greek; the steps below use its Greek labels.

  1. Open gov.gr and go to Πολίτης και καθημερινότητα → Υπεύθυνη δήλωση και εξουσιοδότηση → Έκδοση υπεύθυνης δήλωσης. Click Είσοδος στην υπηρεσία.
  2. Log in with your Taxisnet credentials.
  3. For the document type choose Υπεύθυνη Δήλωση and click Επιλογή on the general template.
  4. Enter your mobile number for confirmation, check your personal details and click Επιβεβαίωση. Fill in anything missing and click Συνέχεια.
  5. In the declaration text, write the appropriate text from below (in Greek).
  6. In the document recipient details, write: Magic Streams L.P
  7. Check the preview. You'll receive a code by SMS: enter it to issue the declaration.
  8. Download the PDF.

Text for the current registrant (the one giving)

Domain name: [the domain, e.g. example.gr]
Όνομα / Εταιρεία: [new registrant's]
Email: [new registrant's]
Τηλέφωνο: [new registrant's]
Διεύθυνση: [new registrant's]
Πόλη: [new registrant's]
ΑΦΜ: [new registrant's]
ΔΟΥ: [new registrant's]

Text for the new registrant (the one receiving)

The details must be exactly the same as those you entered in the Step 1 request. Mistakes or differences lead to rejection by the registry.

Step 3: Send us the declarations

  1. Open a support ticket with the subject "Domain ownership transfer [the domain]".
  2. Attach both PDFs. Without both declarations the transfer can't go ahead.
  3. If the new registrant has no access to your account, they can send you their declaration so you attach it.

Once we have the payment and both declarations, we submit the transfer to the registry and let you know in the ticket when it's complete.

After the transfer

  • The domain keeps working normally during the transfer. The expiry date doesn't change.
  • The domain stays in your Client Area account. If the new registrant has their own account with us and wants to manage it themselves, ask us to move it to their account.
