Shoutcast is software for internet radio. The Shoutcast server (also called DNAS) takes your station's audio and sends it to all your listeners over the internet. Along with the audio it sends information such as the station name and the title of the song that's playing.

How it works

• Source: the audio comes either from your panel's AutoDJ (songs and playlists you upload) or from live broadcasting software on your computer (e.g. BUTT, RadioBOSS, SAM Broadcaster).
• Server: the Shoutcast server on our servers receives the stream and distributes it to your listeners.
• Listeners: they listen on your website, in apps, players, smart speakers and internet radio devices, using the stream address.

Shoutcast Directory

Shoutcast also has its own station directory, the Shoutcast Directory (directory.shoutcast.com). Many apps and devices use it, so being listed brings new listeners. See Shoutcast Directory: How to list my station (AuthHash).

Shoutcast or Icecast?

The other major streaming server is Icecast. You'll find the differences in Shoutcast or Icecast? Which one to choose.

Not sure which panel you have and where you set the server type? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
