cPanel: Adding an SRV record in the Zone Editor

11666 views

An SRV record tells a service (e.g. Minecraft, SIP telephony, chat) which server and port to use for your domain's service.

This applies when your domain's DNS is managed by cPanel (the domain points to your hosting's nameservers). If your DNS is elsewhere, add the record there: see DNS Management: how to add A, CNAME, MX and TXT records for my domain.

Steps

  1. Log in to cPanel with Login to Panel (see cPanel: Logging in).
  2. Open the Zone Editor and click Manage next to the domain.
  3. Click the arrow next to Add Record and choose SRV.
  4. Fill in:
    • Name: in the form _service._protocol.yourdomain.com., e.g. _minecraft._tcp.yourdomain.com.
    • Priority: priority (0 is the highest).
    • Weight: weight, for servers with the same priority.
    • Port: the service's port.
    • Target: the service's server, e.g. mc.yourdomain.com.
  5. Click Save Record.

DNS changes may take a little while to apply everywhere.
