Multicast Video: Watermark and logo blur on your video files
4 viewsApplies to: Multicast Video. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
A watermark is a logo (or a piece of text) shown in a corner of the picture, e.g. your channel's logo. Blur logo does the opposite: it blurs part of the picture, e.g. an old logo that is already inside a video.
This article covers watermarks that are burned permanently into the video file. There are three ways:
| Method | Where to find it | Which videos it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic watermark on every new video | Upload → Watermark Settings card | Videos uploaded from now on |
| Watermark on one specific video | Videos → ⋮ → Edit → Watermark tab | Only the video you are editing |
| Blurring a logo | Videos → ⋮ → Edit → Blur Logo tab | Only the video you are editing |
Just want your logo on the channel? The Stream Watermark on the Overlay & Watermark page is usually the better choice. It goes on top of everything you broadcast (videos, live, restream), doesn't change your files and can be removed whenever you like. See Overlay & Watermark on the stream. If you use both, the logo will appear twice.
Who has it
File watermarks and logo blur are available on packages that include them. If you see a yellow PRO badge next to the Blur Logo / Watermark tabs or on the Watermark Settings card, ask us to upgrade your package. See Upgrading or downgrading your package.
1. Automatic watermark on every new video
You upload your logo image once, and from then on it is added automatically to every new video while it is being optimized.
Upload the image
- Go to Content → Upload.
- In the right-hand column, click the Watermark Settings card to open it. The status is shown next to the title: Not configured, Disabled or Active.
- Click Upload Watermark and choose your image.
- Accepted: PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP, up to 2 MB. Everything is stored as PNG.
- A PNG with transparency (no white box around the logo), about 400-500 px wide, is recommended.
- You'll see the message "Το watermark ανέβηκε επιτυχώς" (watermark uploaded) and the image under Current Watermark.
Set it up and switch it on
- Turn on the Enable watermark on downloads switch. The switch only becomes available after you upload an image.
- Choose a Position: Top Left (default), Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right or Center.
- Adjust the three sliders:
- Opacity: 10-100 % (default 80 %). At 100 % the logo is fully visible; lower values make it more see-through.
- Size: 5-50 % of the video width (default 15 %).
- Padding: 0-100 px from the edge of the picture (default 20 px).
- Click Save Settings. You'll see "Οι ρυθμίσεις αποθηκεύτηκαν" (settings saved).
The Reset button only puts the default values back in the form. To apply them, click Save Settings afterwards.
Which videos get it
- Despite the switch's name ("on downloads"), while it is on the watermark is added to every new video that gets optimized: files you upload on this page, videos you download From URL, and videos you Import from FTP.
- Videos you already have are not changed. To watermark an older video, use the Watermark tab in Edit (below).
- Videos imported from the Video Library skip optimization, so they don't get this watermark.
- With the watermark on, optimization fully re-encodes the picture, so each video takes longer to become Ready. In the upload queue you'll see "The video is being optimized and watermark is being applied."
Turning it off or changing the image
- To stop adding it to new videos, turn the switch off and click Save Settings.
- To change the image, click Upload Watermark again. The new image replaces the old one.
- Delete removes the image and switches the automatic watermark off (it asks you to confirm "Delete watermark?").
None of these changes removes the watermark from videos that already have it.
2. Watermark on one specific video
Careful: this permanently replaces the original file. It can't be undone. If you want to keep a clean copy, download it first from FTP Access.
- Go to Content → Videos.
- On the video you want, click ⋮ → Edit. The Edit Video window opens.
- Go to the Watermark tab.
- Under Watermark Type, choose Image or Text.
If you chose Image
- In Watermark image file, choose a PNG, JPG, GIF or WEBP image up to 2 MB (preferably a PNG with transparency).
- If you have already used an image in this tab, a small preview appears above the field. If you don't choose a new one, that image is used. The image in this tab is separate from the image in the Upload page's Watermark Settings, so the first time you must choose a file.
If you chose Text
- Watermark text: up to 100 characters, e.g. your channel name.
- Font size: 10-120 (default 24).
- Font color: white by default.
- Background color: tick Enabled if you want a coloured box behind the text, so it stays readable on bright scenes.
Common settings and applying
- Position: Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right (default) or Center.
- Opacity: 10-100 % (default 80 %).
- Size: 5-50 % of the video width (default 15 %). This applies to images; for text, use Font size.
- Edge padding: 0-100 px (default 20).
- Click Apply Watermark and confirm the message "This will add a watermark and replace the original file. Continue?".
- Wait while the progress "Applying watermark..." is shown. At the end you'll see "Processing complete!".
Applying a watermark fully re-encodes the video, so large videos can take several minutes. Only one processing job runs per video at a time.
3. Blurring a logo
Useful when a video already carries another channel's logo or a caption you don't want to show.
Careful: here too the original file is permanently replaced. It can't be undone.
- Go to Videos → ⋮ → Edit → Blur Logo tab.
- The video loads in a small player. Use the buttons below it (−5 s, −1 s, play/pause, +1 s, +5 s) or the bar to go to a point where the logo is clearly visible.
- With the mouse, draw a rectangle over the logo ("Draw a rectangle over the area you want to blur"). The box is shown with a red dashed line.
- For a precise fit, adjust the X, Y, Width and Height fields. The minimum area is 10 × 10.
- Click Blur Logo and confirm "This will blur the selected area. Requires re-encoding. Continue?".
- Wait for "Processing complete!".
Tip: make the rectangle a little bigger than the logo, because if it cuts off the edges they will still show. The blur stays in the same place for the whole video. If the logo moves around within the video, it won't be covered everywhere.
You can combine them: first blur the old logo and, once that's done, add your own watermark from the Watermark tab, even in the same position.
Good practice
- Try it first on a short test video to find a position, size and opacity you like.
- Because the change is permanent, keep a copy of important files on your computer.
- For videos that are already in rotation on the channel, the change shows the next time the video plays.
Messages / Common problems
| Message or problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The Enable watermark on downloads switch is greyed out | First upload an image with Upload Watermark. |
| I uploaded new videos but they have no watermark | Check that the status says Active and that you clicked Save Settings. It only applies to videos uploaded after it was switched on. If it still doesn't work, open a support ticket. |
| "Επιτρέπονται μόνο εικόνες PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP" / "Only PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP allowed" | Convert the image to PNG and try again. |
| "Μέγιστο μέγεθος: 2MB" / "Max 2MB" | Make the image smaller (e.g. 500 px wide) or save it with more compression. |
| "Select or upload a watermark image" or "No watermark image found. Upload one first." | In the Watermark tab, choose a file under Watermark image file. |
| "Enter watermark text" | Fill in Watermark text. |
| "Draw an area on the thumbnail first" | Draw a rectangle on the video before clicking Blur Logo. |
| "Selection area too small (min 10x10)" | Make the rectangle, or the Width/Height values, bigger. |
| "Video has an active processing job" | The video is already being processed (trim, watermark or blur). Wait for it to finish and try again. |
| "Processing failed" | The original file stays as it was. Try again; if it fails again, open a support ticket and include the video's title. |
| "PRO Feature" / "PRO feature - not enabled" | The feature isn't included in your package. See Upgrading your package. |
| The logo appears twice | You have a watermark both in the file and on the stream. Switch one of them off. See Overlay & Watermark on the stream. |
