Multicast Video: Managing videos - folders, editing, trimming, metadata, jingles and duplicates
8 viewsApplies to: Multicast Video. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
The Videos page is your channel's "store room": all the videos you uploaded, downloaded from a URL, imported from FTP or brought in from the Library are here. From this page you organise them into folders, watch them, change titles, trim them, mark them as jingles, add them to playlists and delete the ones you don't need.
Go to Content → Videos. The page is titled My Videos.
Folders
In the left-hand Folders column you see:
- All Videos: all your videos, with their count.
- No folder: videos in the main space.
- Your folders (and their sub-folders, indented), with the number of videos. An orange number next to a folder shows how many files were uploaded there via FTP but haven't been imported yet (see Uploading with FTP and Import).
Click a folder to see only its videos. These folders are the same ones you see over FTP.
New folder
- Click New Folder.
- Type the Folder name, e.g. "Movies", "Series", "Shows". Use Greek or Latin letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens and underscores; other characters are removed automatically.
- Click Create. You'll see "Folder created".
You can't rename or delete a folder from this page. To empty a folder, move or delete its videos as described below.
Search and filters
- Search...: type at least 2 characters of the title. It finds results whether you type with or without Greek accents or in Greeklish (up to 100 results are shown).
- Status filter: All statuses, Ready, Optimizing or Error. Useful for quickly finding videos with a problem.
- Items per page: 10, 20 (default), 50 or 100.
- Upload: takes you to the Upload page, with the folder you're viewing pre-selected.
Each video's card
Each video appears as a card with a thumbnail, duration, title, file size and date. The badges show:
| Badge | What it means |
|---|---|
| Ready | The video can play and go into a playlist. |
| Optimizing | The server is still preparing the video. The thumbnail shows the percentage. |
| Pending | Waiting for optimizing to start. |
| Error | Processing failed. See the table at the end. |
| Jingle | The video is marked as a jingle. |
| Folder name | Which folder it's in. Click it to view that folder. |
| Playlist name or "N playlists" | Which playlists it belongs to. |
| Resolution and kbps | The file's resolution (e.g. 1280x720) and video bitrate. |
To watch a video, click its thumbnail (only for Ready videos). A player window opens in your browser; the channel isn't affected.
The ⋮ menu actions
Each card has a ⋮ menu with: Edit, Move, To playlist, Mark as Jingle / Unmark as Jingle (only for ready videos) and Delete.
Moving to a folder
- Click ⋮ → Move. For several at once, tick them (or Select all) and click Move in the "N selected" bar.
- In the Move to Folder window, choose a folder under Select folder (or "-- No folder --"), or type a new name under Or create new.
- Click Move. You'll see "Moved!".
The actual file is moved too, and the videos stay in whatever playlists they were in.
Adding to a playlist
- Click ⋮ → To playlist.
- In the Add to Playlist window, choose the playlist.
- Click Add. You'll see "Added to playlist!".
Only ready videos can go into a playlist, and each video only once per playlist. To add many at once or a whole folder, it's quicker from Playlists → Manage (see Playlists). If the playlist is already on air, see there how to update the list that's playing.
Jingles
Jingles are short videos (channel logo, ident, "back in a moment") that play between your regular videos.
- Click ⋮ → Mark as Jingle. You'll see "Marked as Jingle!" and the card gets a Jingle badge.
- To undo it, click ⋮ → Unmark as Jingle.
When and how often jingles play is set in the Schedule, under Jingle Options (see Schedule). Videos marked as jingles don't appear in the Schedule's "Single Video" list.
Deleting
- Click ⋮ → Delete. For several at once, tick them and click Delete in the selection bar.
- Confirm with Ναι (Yes).
Deleting is permanent. There is no recycle bin. The file, the thumbnail and the video's place in every playlist are removed, and the space is freed. If you're not sure, download a copy via FTP first.
Always delete videos from this page, not from FTP Files or FileZilla. Otherwise the video stays in the list and in playlists without a file, and doesn't play.
Editing a video
Click ⋮ → Edit. The Edit Video window opens with tabs:
Info: title and description
- On the Info tab, change the Title and, if you like, the Description.
- Click Save. You'll see "Saved".
The title is what you see in the panel, in "now playing" and in the history. The file name doesn't change.
Metadata: title and year inside the file
The Metadata tab writes a title and year into the MP4 file itself (its tags), which is useful if you'll download or share the file.
- Fill in File Title and Year (4 digits).
- Click Save Metadata. You'll see "Metadata saved to file!".
- Reload re-reads what's written in the file.
Picture and sound don't change. The file is rewritten, though, so don't do it while that particular video is on air.
Trim
The Trim tab keeps only part of the video, e.g. to cut ads or "dead" time from the start and end. It's available on all packages.
- Check the Current duration.
- In Start Time, enter where the video should start (default
00:00:00). - In End Time, enter where it should end. The format is always
HH:MM:SS, e.g.00:42:15. - Click Trim Video and confirm the message "Θα κοπεί το βίντεο και θα αντικατασταθεί το αρχικό αρχείο. Συνέχεια;" (the video will be trimmed and the original file replaced; continue?).
- Wait for "Processing complete!".
Careful: trimming permanently replaces the original video and can't be undone. If you want to keep the full version too, download a copy via FTP first. Only one processing job can run on a video at a time.
Blur Logo and Watermark
The Blur Logo tab (to hide a logo that's already in the video) and the Watermark tab (to "burn in" your own logo or text) are available on packages that include them. If you see "PRO Feature", ask us to upgrade your package (see Upgrading or downgrading your package). In detail: Watermark and logo blur on video files.
Duplicate videos
If you've uploaded the same video more than once, the Duplicate Videos page helps you find them and free up space.
- On the Videos page, click Find Duplicates.
- At the top you see Duplicate Groups, Duplicate Files and Potential Savings (how much space you'd gain by keeping only the largest file in each group).
- Each group shows the similar videos, with size, duration, resolution, kbps, date, folder and the playlists they belong to.
- Choose what to keep:
- For all groups at once: Keep Newest (All) or Keep Largest (All).
- For one group: the matching icons in its header.
- For one video: Keep This or Mark for Deletion.
- Check your selection. Clear Selection lets you start over.
- Click Delete Selected and, in the confirmation window, Delete Permanently.
Duplicates are found by file name (ignoring case, spaces, hyphens and endings such as "(1)" or "copy") and, for the rest, by title (Matched by Title badge). File contents aren't compared, so two different episodes with similar names may show up as duplicates. Always check duration and size before deleting. Deleting is permanent, just as on the Videos page. To go back, click Back to Videos.
Messages / Common problems
