Magic Streams is an accredited .gr domain registrar authorised by EETT (Ref. No. 1694/03-11-2020), and also registers .com, .net, .eu and hundreds of other extensions. This article shows you how to find a free domain and register it.

1. Search

1. In the Client Area, go to Domains → Search. The page also works without logging in.
2. Type the name you want (e.g. myradio or myradio.com) and click Check availability.
3. You'll see the result for the name, the Featured extensions, and further down Try these extensions too, with a check button for each.

Naming rules

• Latin letters, numbers, hyphens (not at the start or end) and Greek letters are allowed. Spaces and symbols aren't.
• .gr and .ελ names must be at least 3 characters long.
• Greek names: supported on .gr, .ελ and many international extensions. Accents are removed automatically, as the registry requires. In the EU, Greek names are registered as .ευ, not .eu.
• Some names are reserved by the registry, e.g. geographic names. You'll then see that the domain isn't available for registration.

2. Ordering

Clicking New Order opens the Register Domain form:

1. Registration Period: how many years, with the price for each.
2. Nameservers: already filled in with ours. Leave them if you'll host your website or email with us. If you'll host them elsewhere, enter the other provider's nameservers (at least 2).
3. Addons for this Domain:
   • DNS Management: to manage DNS records from the Client Area (DNS Management). It's already ticked. If you'll have hosting with us, you don't need it, because DNS is managed from the hosting panel.
   • ID Protection: hides your personal details from public WHOIS, on extensions that allow it. For .gr the owner's details aren't published anyway.
   • Email Forwarding and, for some extensions, Consultant Service: .gr names are approved by the registry, and with the consultant service we check the application beforehand to reduce the chance of rejection.
   Add-ons are charged per year, except the consultant service, which is charged once.
4. Additional registration details: details the registry asks for. For .gr, if the owner is a company, fill in the Company Title.
5. If hosting is suggested, choose a package or No, domain only.
6. Click Add to cart and complete the order. If you're not logged in, you'll be asked to log in or register.

Domain owner: the person or company on your account becomes the owner. Make sure your details (name or business name, Tax ID, address, email) are correct before ordering. For .gr, changing the owner later is a chargeable process (.gr change of owner).

3. Payment and activation

1. Pay the proforma invoice. So the domain doesn't get away, use card, IRIS or PayPal, which are credited immediately.
2. Once paid, the registration is submitted to the registry. The domain appears under My Domains as Pending Registration.
3. Most domains are activated within minutes. .gr and .ελ names are checked by the registry and approval can take from a few hours to a few working days.
4. You'll receive a confirmation email and the domain becomes Active. It usually takes a few more hours to "work" on the internet (DNS propagation).

Free domain with a hosting package

On some hosting packages, with the right billing cycle, the domain is registered free. The package page shows "Free domain with this package!" and the terms. The offer only applies to new registrations on the listed extensions, and add-ons (e.g. DNS Management) are charged as normal.
