Plesk: Free SSL certificate (Let's Encrypt) and redirecting to HTTPS

10878 views

With HTTPS your website loads encrypted and the browser shows the padlock. In Plesk you get a free Let's Encrypt certificate, renewed automatically. You log in with Login to Panel (see Plesk: Logging in).

This article used to cover Plesk on Windows. Our hosting is now on Linux.

1. Free certificate

  1. In Websites & Domains, on your domain, click SSL/TLS Certificates.
  2. Click Install for a free Let's Encrypt certificate.
  3. Tick what it should cover: the main domain, www, and if you like webmail and email (Secure webmail on this domain, Assign the certificate to mail domain).
  4. Click Get it free.

The certificate renews automatically before it expires. To be issued, the domain must already point to our server (see Nameservers).

2. Redirecting to HTTPS

On the same page (SSL/TLS Certificates), turn on Redirect from http to https. If webmail has no certificate, untick "Include webmail".

Alternatively, the redirect can be turned on under Hosting & DNS → Hosting, with the option for a permanent 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS.

WordPress

If you have WordPress, see also Plesk: WordPress on HTTPS. If you then see "not secure", see My website shows as not secure.
