Multicast Video: Mixer - production console with Preview and Program
1 viewsApplies to: Multicast Video. Not sure which panel you have? See Which radio or video panel do I have?
The Mixer is a production console in your browser, built like a TV vision mixer: you prepare what will go out in Preview (only you see it) and send it to Program (what viewers see). From the same screen you have jingles, quick buttons, camera, restream, ads, recording and voice announcements.
If you simply want to see what's playing and put videos on air with one click, the Studio is simpler.
You need a computer with a modern browser (Chrome, Edge or Firefox) and a large screen. The Mixer isn't designed for mobile phones.
Opening the Mixer
- In the left menu, under Main, click Mixer.
- It opens full screen. Back takes you back to the Dashboard.
The screen at a glance
Top menu
- Presets: the list with Default and your own presets, and the New, Open, Save buttons (see "Presets" below).
- The playlist list: changes the channel's active playlist.
- Language, theme, full screen, the ONLINE / OFFLINE indicator with viewers, the REC indicator and the cog for Settings.
The two monitors
- Preview (left): here you "load" a video to check it before it goes out. Viewers don't see it. If you haven't chosen anything, it says "No Source Selected".
- Program (right): what's on air now, with the LIVE indicator. When the channel is stopped: "Stream Offline".
The centre: transition buttons
- Quick Preview: loads the next video in the playlist into Preview.
- Cut: sends what's in Preview to Program.
- Fade and the transition bar (T-bar): these also make an instant switch, exactly like Cut.
- Next: cuts the current video and moves to the next one in the playlist.
- The quick buttons 1, 2, 3, 4 (Quick Slots) and a clock.
Bottom: inputs and audio mixer
Tabs with your sources: Playlist, Jingles, All Videos, Camera, RTMP, Advertisements. Next to them, the Audio Mixer. At the very bottom, the bar with the Add Text, Record, Stream, Program, External, Playlist, Advertisements and Talkover buttons.
Basic workflow: Preview → Cut → Program
- Make sure the channel is playing (the indicator says ONLINE). If not, click Stream in the bottom bar → Start Stream.
- In the Playlist or All Videos tab, click a video's thumbnail (or Preview on its card). The video plays in Preview ("Loaded in Preview"). The All Videos tab shows the 20 newest and loads more as you scroll down.
- Watch it and, when you're ready, click Cut.
- You'll see "On Air: title". The video that was playing is cut and the new one goes out on Program. When it ends, the channel carries on with the playlist.
Shortcuts on the video cards: a card's Cut sends it straight to air without Preview. Close clears Preview if it holds that video. Audio mutes the video in your own Preview only. Loop sends the card's video back to air every time it ends, only while the Mixer page stays open. Click it again to stop.
There is no smooth transition (fade). All switches are instant. Also, while you're live from OBS or a camera, Cut doesn't change the picture ("Cannot change video during live broadcast"), because live takes priority.
Jingles and quick buttons 1-4
Jingles tab
Shows the videos you've marked as jingles (Videos → ⋮ → Mark as Jingle). On each card:
- Jingle: plays the jingle over the programme. The video that was playing is interrupted and then carries on from about the same point.
- Play: sends it to air like Cut (the playlist carries on afterwards).
- Preview: loads it into Preview.
Quick Slots 1-4
Four buttons for the videos you use often (channel ident, "back in a moment" etc.):
- Load a video into Preview.
- Right-click one of the buttons 1-4. The video is assigned to it ("Slot 1 = title").
- From then on, a normal click plays the video immediately as a jingle (it interrupts, then the programme carries on).
- Shift + click clears the button.
Quick Slots are stored in your computer's browser. On another computer or browser they'll be empty.
Switching playlist
Choose a playlist from the list in the top menu. You'll first be asked "Switch to playlist "…"? The video playing now will stop." Click Switch to change it or Cancel to keep the current one. On switching, the video that's playing is cut ("Playlist changed"). The Playlist tab shows the videos of the new list. To manage playlists, click Playlist in the bottom bar. See Playlists.
Camera: going live from the browser
- Open the Camera tab.
- Choose a Camera and an Audio Source.
- Under Audio Mode choose:
- 🎤 Microphone: for speech, with echo and noise cancellation;
- 🎵 Music / Line-in: clean sound with no processing, for a mixing desk or music.
- Choose a resolution and bitrate (bitrate up to your package's limit).
- Click Start and allow the browser to use the camera and microphone. Preview shows the camera on the Preview monitor. Monitor lets you hear its sound (wear headphones to avoid feedback).
- Click Go Live. You'll see "Camera is now LIVE!". The camera goes on air and takes priority over the playlist and restream.
- To finish, click Stop Live. The channel automatically goes back to the restream (if you have one) or the playlist.
Don't close the browser tab while you're live: the broadcast stops. In detail, and what to do if it won't connect: Going live from the browser with a camera.
RTMP: restreaming an external feed
- Open the RTMP tab and paste the address into Stream URL (
rtsp://,rtmp://orhttps://…m3u8). - If it's an
.m3u8, you can check it first with Preview or send it to the Preview monitor with To Preview. Preview only works with HLS (.m3u8). - Click Restream to put it on air. If the address can't be verified, a URL Test Warning appears: click Cancel and check the address, or Force Start only if you're sure it's correct.
- To stop, click Stop Restream.
This is the same setting as Restream on the Live page. Switching it on and off restarts the channel (a short interruption for viewers). See Restreaming another channel (Restream).
Advertisements
The Advertisements tab shows your active ad schedules. For each one you can view its videos in Preview or click Play to air one ad from it immediately. The Advertisements button in the bottom bar opens the management page in a window. See Advertisements.
Audio Mixer: what you hear
The Audio Mixer has three channels: PRV (Preview), PGM (Program) and MST (Master), each with a fader, S (solo) and M (mute).
Important: the faders change only what you hear in your browser. They don't change the volume viewers hear. For example, you can mute PGM so you only hear Preview while you get the next video ready.
Recording the programme
Record saves whatever is on air (Program, with its overlays) to an MP4 file, e.g. to keep a live show.
- Make sure the channel is playing.
- Click Record in the bottom bar. The button shows REC with a timer and you'll see "🔴 Recording started".
- To stop, click it again. You'll see "⏹ Recording saved" with the file name and size.
- You need at least 100 MB of free space in your package.
- The maximum length is 4 hours, or less if your free space isn't enough (about 5 MB per minute).
- If you stop the channel, the recording stops too.
- The file is saved in the record folder of your storage, with a name like
rec_YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.mp4, and counts towards your storage. - To download it or add it to your Videos: FTP Access → record folder → download button or Import. See Uploading with FTP and Import.
The other bottom-bar buttons
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add Text | Opens the Overlay & Watermark settings (scrolling text, popup etc.) in a window. Available on packages that include it. See Overlay & Watermark. |
| Stream | Opens Stream Control with Start Stream / Stop Stream. Stopping disconnects all viewers. |
| Program | Opens the Schedule page in a window. Don't confuse it with the Program monitor. |
| External | Opens the Live page in a new tab (OBS details, output settings). |
| Playlist | Opens playlist management in a window. |
| Advertisements | Opens ad management in a window. |
| Talkover | A voice announcement of up to 60 seconds, heard over the programme after you stop recording. It works like Talk in the Studio. |
Presets: saving your layout
A preset keeps your Mixer layout so you can bring it back with one click.
- Click New in the top menu.
- Enter a Preset Name and tick what to save: Volume Levels, Active Playlist, Solo/Mute States, Quick Slots, Preview Video.
- Click Create Preset.
- Later: choose the preset from the list and click Open to apply it, or Save to store your current settings in it. To delete one, click the bin next to it in the list.
- If the preset includes Active Playlist, Open also changes the channel's playlist (cutting the current video).
- Default can't be saved over; create a new preset first.
- Presets are stored only in this browser. They don't carry over to another computer and are lost if you clear the browser's data.
